How does your menstrual cycle affect your skin?

Every one of us has noticed that often before menstruation, some other pimple comes out. Sure, factors like stress, incorporating new skincare products and certain foods have a big impact, but nothing affects us more than our hormones. And we feel like we don't talk about it enough.
Our bodies change a lot every month, so it's important to understand exactly how the change in hormone levels can affect our skin.
To help you navigate exactly what your skin needs throughout your menstrual cycle, we've created this article as a guide for you to reread during each phase of your cycle to make sure you're giving your skin and body the right care.
Days 1-5: Menstrual phase
The first day of your period is also the start of your period. During this period your hormones are at their lowest, and with these low progesterone levels your skin may start to produce less sebum and therefore become drier. If you have oily skin, this is a super period for you. But if your skin is normal to dry, you may notice that it becomes dehydrated and sensitive more quickly. During this period, try not to skip moisturizer in the morning and at night. Pamper yourself with a nourishing face mask twice a week.
Days 6-12: Follicular phase
During this period, estrogen levels begin to rise again and we feel a strong surge in our energy and overall tone. This, of course, also affects the skin. Collagen production is propelled and the skin naturally becomes firmer and more radiant. However, when sebum levels rise again, oiliness can quickly build up and cause clogged pores. Focus on good cleansing in the morning and at night. Our antibacterial foam brush is perfect for this! And our detox mask will quickly cleanse pores.
Days 13-18: Ovulation
Ovulation is the fertile phase of your cycle. During this phase, estrogen levels are highest and collagen production gets a boost again. Enjoy this time of the month, shine bright because your energy levels are higher too. Your skin is at its best, clearing up and glowing. This is a good time to give it an extra glow and energy with our peptide serum. Your skin will be more than happy!
Days 19-28: The Luteal Phase
In the weeks before your period starts, your skin, as well as your overall mood, takes a serious hit as estrogen levels start to drop and progesterone levels rise. Say "hello" to increased sebum production, clogged pores and hormonal blemishes around your jawline. During this phase, it's important to already have an effective routine and products you can rely on. Cleansing is key, but don't be harsh with your skin and body. This is a period and, like all others, will pass quickly. Be consistent with your care!
